Wednesday Travel League Local Rules 2025

The purpose of this document is to establish some local rules for the league
that vary from USGA rules. We believe that most of these rules have been informally
understood for years but we thought it would be useful to get them down in
writing for reference.

In the interest of keeping our contests fun and fair and the speed of play acceptable, we
want all our players playing by the same rules.

In the competition for weekly skins, CTPs, and low gross/net contests, we don’t want
players to be at a disadvantage because they play in a group that strictly enforces USGA
rules nor do we want other players to have an advantage because their group is more lenient
.

Rules:

1. With a 1 stroke penalty: all OB, lost, water, sand and unplayable balls may be
played by dropping a ball as near as possible to where your ball entered the
problem area, no nearer the hole, that allows for both an unobstructed line at the green
or your next target with an unobstructed swing.

2. With no penalty stroke: you can roll the ball to improve your lie but not your
circumstances.
  a. If you are in the rough, stay in the rough. If you are behind a tree, stay
       behind the tree, etc.
  b. If you are in a sand bunker in an old footprint or poorly maintained sand,
pick up the ball, rake the area, and drop the ball back where it was.
  c. Do not hit from ground that will likely cause damage to you or your club.
Move the ball from gravel or near roots to the nearest point playable that
leaves you with the same basic shot.

3. If you do not have a shot using rule 2, you need to use rule 1 and take relief with a 1
shot penalty.

4. Gimmies:

    a.  NEW RULE:  Gimmies are not allowed in the Red Flight.  All putts have to be holed out.

    b.  Gold Flight and Green Flight players can have putts conceded to them when the putt is "inside     the leather" or when the putt no longer matters.

5. The USGA defines a Maximum Score per hole for calculating handicap.  We use
this criteria in suggesting players pick up once they reach their maximum score based on their flight.
This is intended to speed up play.

  •   Red Flight – Double Bogey

  •   Gold Flight – Triple Bogey

  •   Green Flight – Quadruple Bogey

Money Games:

Approximately 80% of League dues are dedicated toward paying out prize money
for weekly games. The weekly games are divided into 2 categories:
Events and FedEx Points.

A.  Events.  Each flight has 5 weekly events: Low Gross, Low Net, Closest to the Pin, Closest
to the Pin on a par 4 in 2 Shots, and Longest Putt.  Each win is awarded a point
which is paid off at the end of the season in prize money.

     1. No event is contested on the first hole.

     2. The Longest Putt contest is always on the last hole.

--  To qualify for Longest Putt, the ball must be on the putting surface

--  Only the first attempt qualifies

     3.  The Closest to the Pin contest is on the easiest par 3 and the Closest in 2 Shots is on the

easiest par 4 according to the hole handicap.
--  To qualify for either of these events, the ball must be on the putting surface.
    4.  Low Gross winner is the player(s) with the lowest score.
--  In the event of ties, each player is awarded a point.
    5.  Low Net winner is the player(s) with lowest score after handicap is applied.
--  Winners of Low Gross cannot also win Low Net.
--  In the event of ties, each player is awarded a point.

 FedEx Points:

     1.  Every week, each flight has a scoring competition modeled after the PGA
points system. Players collect points for where they finish in each week’s
competition for both gross and net scoring.
     2.  The low 4 gross scores and low 4 net scores get points each week.
         -- 4 points for 1st
         -- 3 points for 2nd
         -- 2 points for 3rd
         -- 1 point for 4th

.     3.  Players will be awarded points in either the gross or net competition, not
         both.
     4.  Players that qualify for both gross and net awards, will be rewarded for the
score that earns the most points.

--  Example: A player finishes 2nd  for gross score and 4th for net score. The
player receives 3 points for gross and 0 points for net.

     5.  In the event of ties, each player earns a full share.
-- Example 1: 3 players tie for 2nd place Low Net.  Each player will get 3 points.  In this example,
no points  are awarded for 3rd or 4th (because of the 3-way tie for 2nd)
-- Example 2: 4 players tie for 4th Place Low Gross. All 4 players get 1 point.

In-Season Tournament:  Approximately 15% of League fees is dedicated to the prize fund for the In-Season Tournament which is a 3 week tournament played during the last 3 weeks of the season.

Post-Season Tournament:  This is an 18 hole tournament played on a Saturday after the season has ended.  This tournament is now a "pay as you go" event.  An entry fee is charged to qualify for the various events.
